I am the library media specialist at Barnstable High School. I have been in the Barnstable School District for eight years. Barnstable High School though located on Cape Cod is more urban than other high schools on the Cape. The population is very diverse, comprised of a large ELL population, as well as socioeconomic and cultural diversity.
The pupil population is approximately 1900 with approximately 135 faculty. I am the only librarian at the high school and only one of two in the district. I have one full-time assistant. Barnstable High School like many schools and districts across the country have been impacted by fiscal shortfalls. I love my profession and because of that I continue to be optimistic about the future of school libraries and librarians.
